Commonwealth Financial Network® is the largest privately held Registered Investment Adviser–broker/dealer in the U.S., with offices in Waltham, Massachusetts, and San Diego, California. Since 1979, we’ve been helping our field force of independent financial professionals help investors pursue their financial goals. We do that by providing them with the technology, research, resources, and support that allow them to keep their focus on what’s most important: investors and their financial objectives.

With that said, we are not your typical financial services firm. For starters, we’re a fast-growing company, and we think and have fun like a start-up. Conveniently located on the commuter rail near the intersection of Route 95 and the Mass Pike, we’re accessible from anywhere—and away from the congestion of a downtown commute.

Commonwealth recognizes that our people are our greatest asset by investing in training and professional development. As a result, Commonwealth has been recognized 37 times (and counting) as one of the Best Places to Work by top publications in the region (Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, San Diego Business Journal, San Diego Union-Tribune), as well as in the IT industry (Computerworld). With high marks in areas such as work environment, work/life balance, job satisfaction, and opportunities for advancement, Commonwealth is a place where you can thrive.

About the Opportunity

The Data Integrity team is the lifeblood of our account reporting system, Client360°®. As an investment reporting engineer, you will be designing and testing new Client360° reports and enhancing existing reports (holdings reports, allocation reports, performance reports, etc.). You’ll also be collecting feedback from our advisors regarding their reporting needs and prioritizing these requests, making sure the report programmers understand these needs, as well as how the calculations in these reports should work. The last stage in this process involves testing the report development within testing and production environments. Seeing these reporting projects go from the idea stage to the finished project is a gratifying accomplishment!
In this role, you will have a good deal of contact with our advisors, educating them about our reports, suggesting reports and alternative solutions, explaining different investment calculations, and collecting report feedback. Within the Reporting team, our goal is to give our advisors all the reporting tools they need to illustrate how they are helping their clients achieve their investing goals.
You will also work on other projects as needed, including performance analysis and quarterly statements. It is a dynamic role where every day is different!
Think you have what it takes? Then let’s talk.

  • Collecting and responding to feedback received from advisors about our investment-related reports
  • Using that feedback to help maintain a pipeline of top report requests for development
  • Detailing those requests for report developers to ensure that they understand what we are looking for from them
  • Testing report development and providing feedback to the report developers as to what further changes need to be made
  • Supporting our advisors by answering their questions about reports, suggesting reports to them, and explaining how the report calculations work
  • Providing performance analysis when advisors question performance returns
  • Participating in the quarterly statement process during the first week of each quarter

  • At least 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge of investment-related reports and typical investment report calculations
  • Some experience with performance calculations and performance analysis
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in groups
  • Ability to successfully multitask
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proficient with Excel
  • Progress toward the CFA® charter is a plus
