  • Overview

Commonwealth Financial Network® is the largest privately held Registered Investment Adviser–independent broker/dealer in the United States, with offices in Waltham, Massachusetts, and San Diego, California. Since 1979, we’ve been helping our field force of independent financial professionals help investors pursue their financial goals. We do that by providing them with the technology, research, resources, and support that allow them to keep their focus on what’s most important: investors and their financial objectives.

With that said, we are not your typical financial services firm. For starters, we’re a fast-growing company, and we think and have fun like a start-up. Conveniently located on the commuter rail near the intersection of Route 95 and the Mass Pike, we’re accessible from anywhere—and away from the congestion of a downtown commute.

Commonwealth recognizes that our people are our greatest asset by investing in training and professional development. As a result, Commonwealth has been recognized 38 times (and counting) as one of the Best Places to Work by top publications in the region (Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, San Diego Business Journal, San Diego Union-Tribune), as well as in the IT industry (Computerworld). With high marks in areas such as work environment, work/life balance, job satisfaction, and opportunities for advancement, Commonwealth is a place where you can thrive.

    About the Opportunity

As the technology offerings at Commonwealth continue to expand, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure compliance with internal policy and regulatory focus. We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills—as well as a dedicated focus on documentation—to perform due diligence on new and existing technology offerings throughout the firm. The right candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of compliance or regulatory affairs and be able to identify risk and mitigation strategies quickly, all while working in an autonomous environment.
If you think you have what it takes, let’s introduce ourselves.

    • Identifying risk associated with new applications prior to implementation in partnership with various Scrum teams and internal departments
    • Evaluating the risk level associated with our existing tools and applications in the Commonwealth technology suite and developing an audit plan for review by Compliance leadership
    • Conducting ongoing audits of previously approved tools to ensure that conditions for approval are met continuously
    • Aiding the associate product manager in the testing of legacy systems that meet core regulatory conditions
    • Coordinating and documenting compliance guidance given by the Technology Review Committee to business units throughout the firm
    • Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations in order to decrease the firm’s exposure to regulatory and legal risk

    • 5+ years of broad, demonstrated experience in compliance or regulatory affairs (or in-house experience)
    • A passion for problem solving with a technology focus
    • Internal audit or rules-based testing experience in any industry, a plus

    • A broad understanding of state and federal regulations and the ability to quickly understand adaptations to firm policy
    • Demonstrated proficiency with technology—specifically SharePoint, Excel, web, and Visio
    • FINRA Series 7 and 24 securities registrations
    • College degree

    • Ability to consistently provide a high level of attention to detail
    • Strong communication skills—both written and oral
    • Effective time management and organizational skills
    • Ability to thrive under complete autonomy and finish projects with limited management involvement
    • Confidence to present new solutions for existing problems to colleagues and managers
    • Strong creative thinking skills to evaluate problems from different perspectives, while keeping an open mind
