  • Overview

The Advanced Planning department provides educational and consultative financial planning strategies to our 1,800 independent financial advisors, who are dedicated to helping their clients achieve their wealth management goals. Our advisors lean on us to help them understand complex issues. Research plays a large part in the daily support we provide.

We’re a small shop—just nine people on our bicoastal team—and given our consultative nature, we’re known for supporting one another—advisors and colleagues alike—to get our goals accomplished. We are looking for a self-assured, poised, and approachable person to join us in our commitment to delivering indispensable service. If, like us, your passion for consulting, research, and service runs deep, let’s talk.

    Key responsibilities

    • Serving as a technical resource for wealth management strategies: estate, tax, and charitable planning; social security strategies; education savings; executive compensation; business succession; and retirement income planning
    • Reviewing clients’ planning objectives in order to help identify opportunities to meet their needs
    • Coaching advisors to quarterback the client relationship with clients’ other professionals (e.g., an attorney or CPA), helping advisors focus on the strategic big picture, and walking them through the planning issues
    • Reviewing and summarizing planning documents, as well as identifying potential issues on a variety of projects (e.g., helping advisors review a client’s estate planning objectives, executive compensation plans, stock options, or business succession planning)

    Core strengths

    • JD or CFP® required; estate planning background preferred
    • The ability to research issues and confidently help advisors think through clients’ planning strategies
    • The aptitude to manage projects moving in different directions and to embrace a broad spectrum of disciplines throughout your day
    • Comfortable writing communication and strategy articles, developing client presentation pieces, and participating in public speaking activities
