  • Overview

    As a member of the Legal department, you will primarily be responsible for investigating matters involving possible financial exploitation of our senior and vulnerable clients. Changes in regulations relating to reporting of financial exploitation are dynamic, and the cases are very important to protecting investors, the firm, and its advisors. These investigations are often complex, and they require not only excellent problem-solving skills but also an ability to build effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, such as business partners, state and county Adult Protective Services agencies, law enforcement, and other financial institutions. Additionally, you may be called upon to provide guidance on handling matters for clients with diminished financial capacity.  


    Key responsibilities

    • Investigating cases of potential financial exploitation and fraudulent activity that may arise from account surveillance, referrals from advisors, or matters escalated to the Legal or Compliance departments
    • Analyzing transactional activity to identify possible suspicious activity
    • Conducting due diligence searches using several internal databases and third-party software
    • Leveraging our case management system to manage individual caseloads, which includes documenting and archiving assigned cases from case origination through resolution and accurately articulating the circumstances and events of the investigation
    • Preparing suspicious activity reports, as needed
    • Assisting with updating departmental resources and procedures
    • Providing support for special projects and initiatives as assigned

    Additional skills and knowledge

    • Working knowledge of financial market and products, as well as securities industry operations
    • A minimum of 2 years of AML or fraud investigation and analysis experience
    • CAMS or CFE certification required or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment
