As a new accounts manager, being a self-motivated team player—someone who is able to give both constructive feedback and praise—is essential.

     

    The New Accounts department is a strong, steady force responsible for all areas of account maintenance, including establishing brokerage accounts, as well as shell accounts for those held directly with a sponsor firm. Our team of more than 40 people is a blend of deep tenure and newer recruits, and it spans both coasts. We’re driven by following policies, procedures, and regulations to a T—all while providing Commonwealth’s signature level of indispensable service.

     

    Key responsibilities 

    • Overseeing members of the New Accounts department, as well as departmental workflow and procedures
    • Resolving escalated issues, providing indispensable customer service to our advisors and internal staff
    • Delivering direct feedback, both positive and constructive, to direct reports
    • Handling and managing projects
    • Communicating and reporting on goals and business plan results and key performance indicators to senior manager 
    • Implementing corporate strategies with the team
    • Mentoring and coaching existing talent to develop and grow the team
    • Practicing open communication with the team and upper management
    • Coordinating workflows between New Accounts, other departments in the firm, National Financial Services, and sponsor firms.
    • Recommending process, procedural, and structural enhancements for the department; working with IT product managers to develop applications to streamline processes
    • Overseeing training and serving as a technical resource to staff; updating departmental training manuals
    • Writing performance reviews and making recommendations regarding employment, training, development, and other personnel-related issues

     

    Core strengths 

    • 3+ years of management experience
    • A strong understanding of broker/dealer and investment advisor operations
    • FINRA Series 6 or 99 securities registration required; Series 7 a plus
    • Ability to analyze complex issues with a view to providing recommendations and solutions
    • Strong leadership skills; able to work independently and with a team
    • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
    • Ability to work well with other departments
    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required
