  • Overview

    Are you passionate about user-centered design, interaction, and technology? As a UX designer, you will work with other UX team members, developers, and cross-functional Marketing Scrum teams as an interaction design expert. Expect to lead or participate in all stages of creating the best possible user experience for our products, from research, journey mapping, and prototyping through interaction design, user testing, analysis, and presentation of recommendations.

     

    You will take the UX lead across a variety of digital experiences, including Commonwealth’s own corporate marketing, as well as new and existing products used by financial advisors and their clients.

     

     Key responsibilities 

    • Working closely with product strategists, a UX/UI designer, and an established Scrum team to create the overall UX vision for digital products
    • Understanding key business metrics and translating goals into effective user experiences
    • Solving for user needs and challenges through design of engaging and intuitive user interfaces
    • Defining user research and testing activities, synthesizing results, and applying outcomes where indicated
    • Applying user interface design skills and principles to digital application design
    • Creating, prototyping, and refining user interface designs through cycles of iterative product development
    • Working with other internal and external clients, project team members, engineering, visual designers, and product management teams to implement required features successfully
    • Communicating and advocating for best-in-class results, methods, and approaches

    Core strengths 

    • Expertise in user-centered design processes, user interaction design principles, and user interface design guidelines
    • Expertise in usability methodologies, human factors, industry standards and trends, platform standards, and software development processes
    • Enthusiastic about problem solving from both creative and analytical perspectives
    • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment with shifting priorities and a variable workload
    • Effective communicator: an excellent listener, speaker, and writer
    • Meticulous attention to detail, while also seeing the big picture
    • Self-starter who is strategic, thoughtful, and passionate about his or her work

    Additional skills and knowledge

    • 6+ years of experience as a UX designer
    • Knowledge of industry wireframing and prototyping tools; Axure experience preferred
    • Experience in financial services a plus—particularly in insurance, goal planning, or CRM
    • Familiarity with Agile development philosophy and methodologies
    • Familiarity with the possibilities of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
