    Network connectivity is essential part of Commonwealth’s ability to deliver indispensable service. We rely on it to service more than 1,900 advisors and their customers—so our network must maintain the highest levels of security, performance, and uptime. As a senior networking engineer, we will rely on you for the architecture, engineering, and oversight of the company’s entire network, including multiple locations in Waltham, MA, and San Diego, CA.


    Do you have extensive experience designing and maintaining a robust network with gear from Cisco and Meraki, Aruba (Dell), Check Point, Palo Alto, and Infoblox? A successful history of working with vendors such as Verizon, Comcast, and Crown Castle? Our ideal candidate will bring a decade of more of network engineering experience to the role, as well as excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit.


    Key responsibilities

    • Designing highly available network solutions across several locations
    • Implementing and maintaining load-balancing solutions
    • Managing and maintaining VPN infrastructure and firewall policy
    • Managing wired and wireless network infrastructure
    • Performing network maintenance outside of business hours
    • Participating in our on-call rotation; providing 24/7 response to network outages during on-call periods
    • Communicating, tracking, and resolving complex network issues in a timely fashion
    • Architecting new environments and providing clear documentation of each piece


    Core strengths

    • Expert-level knowledge and experience with various Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, including HSRP, VRRP, Spanning Tree, VPC, and designing and implementing dynamic routing solutions such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF
    • Experience configuring and supporting QoS over WAN connections
    • Knowledge of cloud solutions such as Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Teams, and Skype
    • Experience troubleshooting VoIP and video conferencing issues at the network level
    • Experience collecting and analyzing packet captures using Wireshark
    • Proficiency with products and services from managed providers, such as Comcast, Crown Castle/Lightower, TierPoint, and Verizon
    • Experience with Cisco Nexus, Cisco Meraki, Aruba Wireless, and Clearpass
    • Proven ability to pay close attention to detail and follow change management procedures
    • Ability to work closely with others on technical and procedural topics
    • Strong multitasking skills
    • Able to work under pressure and meet project deadlines
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with Visio diagrams and technical documentation


    Additional skills and knowledge

    • 10 or more years of network engineering experience
    • Experience designing and implementing SD-WAN architecture a plus
    • Industry certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, CCDP, PCNSA, PCNSE, are a plus
    • Scripting and automation experience consider a plus
    • Experience managing personnel is a plus
