    Do you enjoy helping small business owners tell their story in unique and compelling ways? Do you have the magic touch that can persuade consumers to engage with a brand and take desired actions?  We’re looking for a marketing writer to join our busy team and help our nationwide community of financial advisors evolve their brand messaging to stand out in a crowded field. You will work both with your colleagues and one-on-one with Commonwealth’s financial advisors—who are among the nicest and most successful in the industry—to draft website copy and other marketing collateral targeted toward a retail investor audience. Reporting to the director and executive editor in Marketing, this job requires strong strategic thinking, insight, ideation, and communication skills.

     

    The ideal candidate is someone who loves to write and is also flexible enough to adapt his or her style to separate and distinct brands; someone who can work effectively with our advisors to understand their positioning and translate that knowledge into benefits-driven prose; and someone who is comfortable writing for both print and online media (with a heavy emphasis on digital platforms).

     

    Key responsibilities

    • Building and guiding the brand voice for multiple financial advisors through an understanding of their unique value and target audiences
    • Writing for a variety of services: websites, blogs, marketing automation content packages, video scripts, and social media
    • Implementing SEO best practices for written content (on-page and off-page SEO)
    • Working with cross-functional team members to identify key messages and develop ideas and concepts
    • Presenting concepts to advisors for approval and development
    • Juggling multiple creative projects within an Agile framework

    Core strengths

    • Enthusiastic proponent of good writing standards and practices across multiple channels; keen awareness of appropriate tone and content
    • Exceptional listening skills and emotional intelligence
    • Creativity and an ability to think outside the box
    • Proven track record of being able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and prioritize accordingly
    • Understanding of digital marketing and SEO
    • Obsessive attention to detail and ability to maintain impeccable grammar, punctuation, and spelling
    • Ability to work collaboratively

    Additional skills and knowledge

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, literature, journalism, or related field
    • 5+ years direct-to-consumer writing experience
    • Demonstrated ability to write effective communications
    • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style a plus
    • Knowledge of financial services industry a plus
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Experience working within content management systems
    • Experience working with creative agencies preferred
    • Agile team experience a plus

    • 2 copy-driven, long-form pieces, such as articles, blog posts, and emails
