If you have a knack for aligning content strategy with business goals and growth targets, we need to connect. Join the Marketing team at Commonwealth as we reimagine what it means to tell the brand story, inform and delight customers, and increase awareness in the marketplace.


Reporting to the vice president of corporate communications, the content strategist will act as a consultant across Marketing in support of content creation, curation, distribution, and evaluation. You will also support content ideation and execution across the enterprise, working directly with subject-matter experts in key departments responsible for sharing knowledge with current and prospective customers.


The content strategist will lead the charge in aligning Marketing project teams with the greater brand story and content strategy. Although you understand tried-and-true content channels, you are an innovator who is continually learning about and experimenting with newapproaches to content creation and distribution. As a leader who can tackle both high-level goals and day-to-day tactics, you are comfortable delving into data to inform best practices and sharing those insights with teams. 


Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the enterprise in aligning content goals of subject-matter experts and departments with a broader content strategy
  • Partnering with senior Marketing leadership to establish best practices for content strategy to support Marketing and business goals
  • Collaborating on content development and execution with teams, using an Agile marketing framework
  • Managing and auditing the department-wide content calendar to ensure that execution aligns with strategy
  • Evaluating and acting on content data and insights to drive optimization and goal achievement
  • Developing plans to create innovative content by sharing and experimenting with new trends and tools

  • Strong background in conducting content audits and gap analyses
  • Deep knowledge in using data and insights to guide decision-making
  • Effective coach with capacity to guide teams in implementing innovative content strategies and tactics
  • Experience working on and with cross-functional teams that include writers, designers, editors, and strategists
  • Understanding of how content type selection affects performance across channels and audiences
  • Continuous learner who will keep pace with evolving trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional listening skills and emotional intelligence; ability to work collaboratively

Additional skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in content creation, execution, and strategy, with a track record of success
  • Experience in the financial industry a plus (or equivalent experience in the technology or health care industries)
  • Proficient in content management systems, email marketing tools, and content scheduling and tracking platforms
  • Proven success in managing multiple projects with competing deadlines and prioritizing accordingly
  • Understanding of SEO and SEM best practices preferred
