Overview

Do you have a decade or more of relevant senior finance and accounting experience, an innovative mind-set, and experience working in a financial institution, family office, or trust company? As the head of accounting and finance, you will oversee an effective and efficient financial management system for a complex family office.

 

We are looking for a senior finance and accounting professional with experience with high-net-worth clients to join our newly formed family office team in Waltham, Massachusetts. Reporting to the head of the family office, you will direct and manage the team responsible for the accounting and financial reporting and analysis functions for the family’s trusts and entities, while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, controls, and procedures.

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Setting strategy for the proper accounting and financial management of the family entities
  • Ensuring all stakeholders receive accurate, timely, and relevant financial information
  • Preparing, reviewing, and approving various internal and external reports, including monthly account reconciliations, balance sheets, financial statements, family member and trustee reporting, support for tax estimates and returns, management dashboards, and ad hoc requests
  • Formulating, implementing, and managing accounting policies and controls that effectively monitor operations and protect family assets; developing best practices to ensure effectiveness of procedures and controls
  • Managing book and tax accounting for corporate entities and partnerships; ensuring effective and proper use of financial systems to accomplish efficient book-to-tax reconciliations
  • Leading and directing efforts in the areas of process improvements, quality of information, and best practices in software use; providing appropriate training
  • Performing treasury functions for all entities; monitoring cash levels to ensure availability of funds, debt repayments, investment vehicles, and cash forecast
  • Preparing and maintaining subscription documents and capital calls for new and recurring investments
  • Calculating equity ownership, tax basis tracking, and potential gain/loss on investments
  • Proactively providing risk management advice across the organization, identifying emerging risks, and recommending appropriate risk management options to senior management
  • Implementing and maintaining appropriate insurance
  • Providing input for improvement in all areas of responsibility

Additional skills and knowledge 

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting or finance required; graduate degree or CPA preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant senior finance and accounting management roles
  • Extensive experience with complex ultra-high-net-worth clients
  • Public accounting experience highly desired
  • Financial institution, family office, or trust company experience required
  • Trust and partnership reporting experience desired
  • General management and project management experience required
  • Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packages
  • Systems conversion and implementation experience highly desired
