We’re looking for a cloud engineer - azure infrastructure specialist to join our ranks. In this role, you will be responsible for powering Commonwealth’s mission of migrating applications and workloads to Public Cloud. Your primary task will include designing, implementing, and managing Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, security, and reliability. You will report to Sr Cloud Manager and contribute to all cloud related projects. Your experience in managing cloud and software engineering teams, along with a proven track record of delivering leading-edge technology infrastructure, is essential for success in this role.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to the Cloud team, ensuring best practices and standards are followed in Azure infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance. 
  • Day-to-Day Support: Offer day-to-day support for Azure infrastructure, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and performance optimization.
  • Azure Policy and Governance: Develop and enforce Azure Policy to ensure compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. Implement governance frameworks to manage resources effectively.
  • Azure Networking and Routing: Design, implement, and manage Azure networking solutions, including virtual networks, subnets, VPN gateways, and routing configurations. Ensure optimal network performance and security.
  • Application Gateway and App Services: Configure and manage Azure Application Gateway to optimize application delivery and security. Deploy and manage Azure App Services for scalable and reliable web applications.
  • Security Best Practices: Implement security best practices in a Landing Zone Architecture environment, best-practices for securing Azure PaaS, Role Based Access Control (RBAC), data encryption, network security, and threat detection.
  • Powershell/AZ CLI Automation: Develop PowerShell/AZ CLI scripts and automation workflows to streamline routine tasks, deploy infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform and Terraform Cloud, and automate configuration management in Azure.
  • Cost Management and Optimization: Implement cost management and optimization practices to monitor, analyze, and control Azure spending. Identify opportunities for cost savings through resource consolidation, rightsizing, and reserved instances.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient and reliable cloud solutions by building out hybrid Cloud environments and leading large migrations.
  • Delivering operational excellence; focusing on the service management and DevOps approach to achieve agility, scale, and efficiency.
  • Setting Azure and AWS architectural standards and designing automation for Cloud infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code); working with our technology partners to design best-in-class Cloud system implementations.
  • Partnering with security and application teams to ensure that infrastructure is secure and meets the company’s needs.

Core Strengths and Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent field of industry related experience.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in Azure infrastructure design and implementation.
  • Must hold at least two of the following certifications: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Networking Associate, Azure Security Associate.
  • Strong proficiency in Azure services and solutions, including but not limited to virtual networks, Azure Active Directory, Azure Policy, Azure Security Center, Azure Monitor, and Azure Resource Manager.
  • Demonstrated experience with PowerShell/AZ CLI scripting and automation tools for Azure.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking principles, protocols, and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPN.
  • Excellent understanding of security concepts and best practices in cloud environments, with experience in implementing security controls and compliance frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks and NIST standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Experience with container orchestration and lifecycle management, Kubernetes, AKS\EKS preferred.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD and infrastructure as code (IaC) solutions, using Terraform or Terraform Cloud and GitHub preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

 Additional Skills and Knowledge 

  • Familiarity with AWS cloud platform.
  • Log Analytics Workspace and writing Kusto Queries.
  • Familiarity with Databricks platform.
  • Experience with AWS Code Build & Code Pipeline using Terraform and Terraform Cloud.
  • Strong ability to multitask and manage multiple projects.
