We are looking for a retirement consultant with 5+ years of experience working with IRAs and retirement plans who is eager to share their diversity of knowledge and technical expertise. If you have been working with retirement plan sponsors as a third-party administrator, compliance consultant, or client service manager your technical prowess and people skills are highly sought.

At Commonwealth, you will be working with premier financial advisors who have built very successful practices. As a retirement consultant, you will join a seasoned team of professionals who our advisors view as an extension of their practice.

 

Your experience and knowledge will also be leveraged to help maintain our position as a firm of choice for advisors. Members of the Retirement Consulting Services team take on individual and group projects to constantly share their insights and elevate their level of resources and services.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Providing advanced technical, consultative, marketing, and product-based support to advisors and home office staff on a variety of retirement plan and IRA topics
  • Delivering indispensable service by actively listening and promptly following up to solve the immediate need of the advisor and his or her client
  • Being an active learner within the retirement plan industry by maintaining and growing personal depth and breadth of knowledge
  • Finding opportunities to share your expertise and thought leadership with others through training, writing articles, and delivering presentations
  • Leading and participating in additional projects to move department or enterprise initiatives forward
  • Participating in activities with the Field Development and Transition department to recruit and transition new advisors to Commonwealth

Core Strengths and Skills 

  • Experience working with financial advisors as a subject matter expert on IRAs and retirement plans, including defined contribution, defined benefit and non-qualified plans
  • Strong understanding of ERISA and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of the financial services industry and the RIA and broker/dealer landscape, as well as the business challenges and resource constraints that advisors face
  • Service orientation with excellent listening, probing, and interpersonal skills; the ability to establish early credibility and enjoy working with others over the phone and by email
  • Top-notch research skills
  • Ability to work as both an individual contributor and a collaborative team member
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Project management experience a plus

Additional Skills and Knowledge 

  • 5+ years of experience working with IRAs and retirement plans
  • Client or advisor-facing experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • FINRA Series 6 or 7, and 63 securities registrations
  • AIF®, CPFA®, CRPS®, or a similar designation
  • Direct experience with plan administration or plan compliance strongly desired
