Overview

Systems Engineer, Commonwealth Equity Services LLC, dba Commonwealth Financial Network, Waltham, Massachusetts (Remote)

Responsible for maintaining, implementing, and ensuring exceptional performance and reliability for server infrastructure and core systems. Design, build, and support our local and wide-area networks and back-end infrastructure, along with all infrastructure-related hardware and software at Commonwealth Financial Network.  Specific duties include:

  • Implementing, overseeing, and supporting on-premises and Cloud infrastructure for Microsoft Windows servers, Windows Active Directory (including GPOs), Office 365, Azure Active Directory (AAD) (including GPOs), Microsoft 365, Exchange, Azure cloud and VDI, storage systems, and VMware Horizon.
  • Identity Management (Active Directory, Azure AD).
  • Research and evaluate technology solutions and present recommendations for improved system operations.
  • Working closely with Senior Cloud and Infra Engineers and other IT teams and acting as a technical escalation resources.
  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows server-based and Microsoft Exchange environments.
  • Exchange Database Migration & Infrastructure Transformation program and Exchange system malfunctions to restore normal email functioning.
  • Prepare cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses to aid in decisions on system implementation.
  • Contributes to the creation of cloud design standards for Microsoft Office 365 and Azure and leads the establishment of definitions and standards necessary to operationalize cloud/M365 services.
  • Tracking client issues and updating and closing tickets.
  • Testing applications and resolving complex problems throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC), including preparing detailed program specifications.
  • Perform data analysis, testing, debugging, audits, disaster recovery, and problem resolution.
  • Documenting the build, deployment, and continuing operation of servers and related system applications and processes.
  • Creating and editing PowerShell scripts and supporting automation processes.
  • M365/Azure Governance - Practical implementation of email security/filtering Policies such as anti-spam, Ant phishing, Antimalware, Content Filter, and safe attachment policies.
  • MS Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive Infrastructure – Including Global configuration, External Access, Federation Trust User, Managing Teams, channel and organization-level policies.

 

Requirements:

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field and 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer working with the maintenance, design, and development of server infrastructure and MS Windows architecture.  The position also requires 5 years of experience (which can have been gained concurrently with the primary experience requirement above) with the following:

 

  • Overseeing, maintaining, and troubleshooting key Windows infrastructure services including Active Directory (AD), AD health, group policies, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and certificate services.

 

  • Handling Azure tasks including virtual machine provisioning, AAD Connect, hybrid setups with Azure Active Directory (AAD), and access management.

 

  • Designing and architecting Exchange Servers and Office 365 Exchange Online tenants, as well as installing and configuring Microsoft Exchange Server and Office 365 setups.

 

  • Diagnosing and resolving complex mail-flow issues, Exchange Database Availability Group (DAG) and database problems, as well as configuring the Proofpoint Email Security System.

 

  • Conducting data analysis, testing, debugging, audits, disaster recovery, and problem resolution and developing, documenting, and revising system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.

 

  • Conducting cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses to support decisions on implementing Office 365 services and developing and testing MS Teams designs to meet customer requirements.

 

This is a telecommuting position working from home.  May reside anywhere in the United States.
